A true student-athlete in every sense, Michael Stuer starred in both the classroom and in the athletic arena at Lowell High School and later at prestigious Ivy League institution Brown University.
As a member of Coach Walter Nelson’s Lowell High football team Mike was a two-year starter at linebacker, leading the Raiders in tackles in both his junior (1976) and senior (1977) seasons. As a senior defensive Captain, Mike was chosen as the Merrimack Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He also was selected as a Boston Globe All-Scholastic and a Lowell Sun All-Star. Mike culminated his LHS grid career by leading all players with 20 tackles in the final Lowell Sun All-Star game after his senior year.
Mike continued his outstanding accomplishments as a member of Hall of Fame Coach George Bossi’s LHS wrestling team. As a junior (1976–77) Mike placed 3rd in the Division I North Sectional Tournament.
Mike’s senior season (1977–78) was one of the best in the annals of LHS wrestling. A team Co-Captain, Mike compiled an overall individual record of 32–2–2. Wrestling in the 170-pound weight class, Mike won championships at both the Wayland Holiday and Sanford, Maine Invitational Tournaments and placed 3rd at the prestigious Lowell Holiday Tournament. Mike peaked in the post-season, capturing the Division I Team State Championship and 2nd place at the New England Championships. Mike helped lead a young Red and Gray squad to the Massachusetts Division I Team State Championship and 2nd place at the New Englands. Mike earned Boston Globe and Boston Herald American All-Scholastic and Lowell Sun All-Star honors at the conclusion of the season.
Mike graduated 10th in a class of 530 from Lowell High School before matriculating at Brown University, eventual graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1982.
At Brown, Mike was a three-year letter winner in football, playing middle linebacker. During his senior season (1981), Mike was defensive Captain and led the team in tackles. He was named Brown’s defensive MVP at the conclusion of the season.
