Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame elects 5 new members

The Selection Committee of the Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame recently elected the Class of 2020. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the induction banquet will not be held until Nov. 18, 2021.

The newly elected class includes:

Timothy O’Keefe, Class of 1990. An important member of the Lowell High School wrestling program, O’Keefe made contributions as both a competitor and later as a Lowell coach. He was a member of the state championship team in 1989 and was team captain and MVP of the 1990 squad. As head wrestling coach at LHS from 2003-11, he led the team to four Division 1 championships and a New England Championship in 2007.

Chea Touch, Class of 1995. Touch becomes the first Asian-American to gain induction into the Hall of Fame. A wrestling standout, Touch won state and New England championships in 1995.

Jeff Survival Ross, Class of 2002. Ross and his family came to Lowell from Liberia. He became one of the most accomplished running backs in Lowell High history, rushing for over 2,300 yards and accounting for 208 points in a Lowell uniform. He went on to continue his career at Boston College.

Julie Ann Driscoll, Class of 2004. One of the most versatile track and field athletes that Lowell has ever had, she qualified for the state championships in 10 different events during her career. She also overcame a foot injury as a sophomore to add to her decorated list of accolades. Driscoll went on to compete at UMass Lowell.

Courtney Schermerhorn, Class of 2006. A three-sport standout, Schermerhorn was most known for basketball. She scored 1,172 career points as a four-year varsity player and led the Red Raiders to the state semifinals in 2006. Also a soccer and track star, she went on to continue her basketball career at Bryant University.

Including this class, there are now 180 LHS Hall of Famers.

The 35th annual event will take place Nov 18 at Lenzi’s Restaurant in Dracut. Social Hour is 6-7 pm, Dinner from 7-8 pm with the Program beginning at 8 pm.
