KATRINA LUTKUS, Class of 2005

KATRINA LUTKUS
Class of 2005
Inducted in 2017

Undoubtedly the most outstanding sprinter of the new millennium for Lowell High School, Katrina Lutkus blazed the track for the Red and Gray as a dominant force in the Merrimack Valley Conference and beyond.

While she played one year of varsity Soccer, it was as a member of the Raiders’ Track program that Katrina made her impact on the athletic history of Lowell High School.

A four-year member of the LHS Indoor Track program, Katrina burst onto the scene during her sophomore year (2002-2003), running on the LHS school-record setting sprint medley relay team which placed 2nd at the Massachusetts State Relays and qualified for the National High School Championships.

As a junior and senior, (2003-2004) Katrina dominated the sprint competition in the Merrimack Valley Conference, finishing both seasons undefeated in the 5O-yard dash and setting school records of 6.2 seconds in the 50 and 7.43 in the 55-meter dash, the latter en route to a 3rd place finish at the prestigious Dartmouth Relays. Katrina capped her seasons with 3rd (2004) and 5th (2005) place finishes in the 55-meter dash at the Massachusetts Division I State Championship Meet. The two-time team MVP, she was selected to the MVC All-Conference (2004) and Lowell Sun All-Star (2004,2005) teams.

As a member of the LHS Outdoor Track team, Katrina was again a dominant force, winning All-Conference honors in the 100-meter dash in 2003, 2004, and 2005 as the MVC’s preeminent sprinter. She set a new LHS record of 12.4 while winning the 1OO-meter event for the 3rd consecutive year at the MVC Championship Meet. She also was part of the Red and Gray 4 x 400 Meter Relay team that set a school record in 2003. Katrina placed 3rd (2003), 5th (2004), and 6th (2005) at the Eastern Mass Division State Championship Meet. She earned Lowell Sun All-Star honors in both 2004 and 2005.

After graduation Katrina was recruited to UMass Lowell, where she was a mainstay of the Riverhawk sprint corps. Among the many highlights of her career at UML were her selection as Northeast 10 Conference Freshman of the Week during December 2005, and her 3rd place finish in the 55-meter dash at the New England 10 Conference Championship Meet during her senior year in 2010.
