DAVID MILLS, Class of 1967

David Mills
Class of 1967
Inducted in 2015

Despite toiling in relative obscurity in the world of the football interior lineman, David Mills still managed to gain recognition at the local, regional, and national levels as a member of the football juggernauts of legendary Hall of Fame Coach Ray Riddick.

In addition to his exploits on the gridiron, Dave also distinguished himself as a member of Coach Del Alberghini’s Lowell High School Track team as a shot putter, eventually surpassing the 50 foot barrier, a benchmark in the world of high school track and field. However, it was a member of the Red and Gray Football squad that Dave made his imprint on the history of Lowell High School athletics.

A mainstay on the Lowell High line during the 1965-1966 seasons, Dave saw service at both the tackle and guard positions, displaying a versatility that made him all the more valuable to the Raiders. Dave received the U.C.T award as the most outstanding lineman in a 19-7 victory over intracity rival Keith Academy during his senior season (1966). At the conclusion of the 1966 season, in which Lowell compiled an excellent 7-1-1 record, Dave received the coveted ELCOP Award, emblematic of Endeavor, Loyalty, Cooperation, Obedience, and Perseverance as exemplified by the recipient. After graduation Dave was selected to play in the Greater-Lowell vs. Greater-Lawrence Lowell Sun Charity Game at Cawley Stadium.

During his Lowell High School grid career, Dave’s superb blocking helped lead the way for several outstanding running backs, including Hall of Famers Bill Capone and Rod Redman.

The culmination of Dave’s Lowell High School Football tenure was his selection by Parade Magazine as a High School All-American in 1966, joining other outstanding athletes from all over the United States, a rare honor indeed. Dave was the sole selection from the six New England states.

In addition to Bill Capone and Rod Redman, Dave joins teammates Tom Whalen, Frank Elliot, Richard Gauthier, Tim Green, Paul Lanoue, Dennis Krysiak, and Arthur Farris in the Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
