CHRISTIN DONAHUE MONAGHAN, Class of 1997

CHRISTIN DONAHUE MONAGHAN
Class of 1997
Inducted in 2018

A dedicated contributor to the Lowell High School Swim program, Christin Donahue enjoyed an outstanding career as a competitor before returning to the LHS pool to rejuvenate the team as its head coach. Christin played a significant role in the Raiders’ success during her four years as a varsity swimmer under Coaches Barbara Smith and Roseanne Riddick (1993-1996). Displaying dynamic versatility in the pool, Christin regularly won events over much of the swimming spectrum, including freestyle, fly, individua! medley and team relay events.

A Lowell Sun All-Star during all four of her years on the Red and Gray squad (1993-1996), Christin was named an All-Conference selection in a highly competitive MVC Conference in 1996. Christin was LHS MVP during the 1996 season. Highly respected as a teammate, she was team captain during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. She was also honored in Who’s Who in Sports during 1994 and 1995.

Massachusetts State Championship Meet qualifier throughout her career, Christin placed numerous times at the Sectional Meet and finished 6th in the 500 freestyle at the State Championships as a sophomore in 1994.

After graduation, Christin attended the University of New Hampshire, where she was a member of the swim team for four years (1997-2001). Christin’s impact on the UNH program is reflected by her being honored with the Golden Goggle Award (reflective of hard work, dedication and overall importance to the team) during the 1998-1999 season. She was named team Captain for the 2000-2001 season.

After her college graduation, Christin eventually returned to Lowell High School as Head Coach of the Swim team. During her six years as head coach (2005-2010), Christin turned the LHS program around, inspiring her swimmers and helping the team to achieve its goals. Christin was named MVC Coach of the Year in 2005 and her team won the prestigious MlAATeam Sportsmanship Award in 2009.

Christin joins former teammates Melissa Burns Botto and Kristen Voutselas in the Hall of Fame.
