BRENDAN W. AKASHIAN, Class of 2004

BRENDAN W. AKASHIAN
Class of 2004
Inducted in 2018

A standout performer in two sports, Brendan Akashian expanded his athletic profile with significant success at both the collegiate and professional levels en route to securing his place in the annals of Lowell High School athletic history.

Brendan was a four-year varsity member of the Lowell High School Hockey Team. He scored 32 points over his freshman and sophomore seasons (2000-2001 and 2001-2002) while skating regular shifts on Raider squads that qualified for the MIAA State Tournament.

As a junior (2002-2003) Brendan’s role expanded as he evolved into a dominant force for the Red and Gray. Tallying 28 goals, 27 assists and 55 points, Brendan led the MVC/DCL League in scoring as Lowell rolled to a record of 19-2-1 while advancing to the Division III North semifinals. He earned MVC/DCL All-Conference and Lowell Sun All-Star honors at the conclusion of the season.

As a senior (2003-2004) Brendan served as Team Captain on a relatively young team. His leadership proved invaluable as Lowell, the 12th seed, advanced to the Division III North Championship game. Brendan tallied 50 points for the season, including several clutch goals during LHS’s tournament run. In a 4-3 semi-final victory over arch-rival Concord-Carlisle, he scored two 3rd period goals, including the ultimate game-winner late in the contest. Brendan was once again the leading scorer in the MVC/DCL and won honors as the Conference Player of the Year in addition to being selected as Lowell Sun Player of the Year. An outstanding student, Brendan was named to the MIAA All-Academic Team. Brendan’s career total of 137 points ranks him high on the all-time LHS scoring list.

A three-year varsity performer playing catcher for the Lowell High School Baseball Team, Brendan showed flashes of what was to come as a sophomore, hitting .500 in limited action. As a junior (2003) Brendan broke into the starting lineup at catcher and earned MVC All Star honors. Senior year (2004), as Team Captain, Brendan led the team with a .417 batting average, 9 doubles (tied for 2nd on the all-time LHS list), and 11 walks. He won MVC All-Conference honors and was selected as a Lowell Sun All-Star.

Brendan attended Division I Holy Cross after graduation and established himself as one of the Patriot League’s most outstanding catchers over the course of his career. A two-time Team MVP and Patriot League 1st Team All-Star, Brendan, the Team Captain as a senior (2008), was recognized as one of the premier collegiate catchers in the nation.

After graduation from Holy Cross, Brendan played professionally for several years, eventually signing a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Brendan joins his brother Brian in the Hall of Fame.
