Peter Kouchalakos was another one of the outstanding three-sport athletes who graced the playing fields of Lowell High School during the mid-to-late 1930’s.

Peter won three varsity letters as a halfback, safety, and kicker as a member of the Red and Gray Football Team.

In baseball, Peter again lettered for three consecutive years as an outfielder. He was also a member of the Lowell American Legion State and New England Championship Team in 1936.

In both football and baseball Peter regularly earned All-Star honors, while in basketball Peter made a significant contribution to Lowell High’s victory in the M.I.T. Tournament (actually the equivalent of today’s state championship).

After graduation, Peter attended Bridgeton Academy, where he lettered in all three of his high school sports.

Peter attended Colby College and later the University of Miami, where he was a varsity performer in both football and baseball.

A decorated war hero, Peter spent 32 years in the Dade County Public School System as a dedicated teacher, coach, and administrator. He has also been a highly visible civic leader in Dade County for many years.

Peter S. Kouchalakos ’44 Peter S. Kouchalakos, Colby ’44, a teacher, coach and school administrator, died August 7 in Coral Gables, Fla. He was 75. Born and reared in Lowell, Mass., he was an outstanding high school athlete at Lowell High School and at Bridgton Academy in Maine. His Colby education was interrupted by service in World War II; he served as a platoon sergeant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and earned several decorations, including the Bronze Star. He graduated from the University of Miami, where, as he had at Colby, he played varsity football and baseball. He taught and served as an administrator in the Dade County schools in Florida, retiring in 1979 after 32 years. In 1992 he was elected to the Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Penelope, two sons, a daughter, four brothers and a sister.
